Biobank is a critical resource for molecular-based biomedical research. The development of such a facility is the initial step for modern molecular diagnostics besides its main research entity on understanding the mechanism and finding cures for human diseases. The biobank collects data and human biospecimens, tests for quality and distributes them to researchers. Researchers will then have the opportunity to study human diseases at the molecular level and the information can be linked to the clinical presentation in understanding the basic mechanism of diseases. Biospecimens that can be stored in the biobank include the human tissues (pathological tissues), plasma, molecular materials (DNA or RNA materials).
Lab Counter Extension: 4333
The Forensic pathology provides a mortuary services which operate on 24-hours basis and encompasses the following:
- Management of transit of bodies from the SASMEC @IIUM wards and Trauma & Emergency Department to next-of kin.
