Previously, the Business Development Unit was under the Department of Finance SASMEC @ IIUM. With the expansion of the business strategies, there is a need to upgrade the unit to be an independent department. Therefore, in HMC Meeting No.1/2023 dated 16 February 2023, the members endorsed the establishment of the new department.

The newly upgraded department will enhance the development of business plans and implement strategic business strategies that would contribute to the growth of non-patient income and financial stability to SASMEC @ IIUM. The department shall ensure SASMEC @ IIUM to become more self-sustainable through methods of generating its own income in the short and long term.

In terms of reporting, the Department of Business Development and Investment (BUDI) shall be under purview of the Hospital Director due to the need for close monitoring at the crucial stage for the department to heighten its strategies and operation.
